Week 2 (Jan. 26-28) – What are WebQuests I: (Re-)Introducing the Term

Since we’re back to work on WebQuests, it is important to revisit what they are. This will be our work for this week.

To get us started, I want you to watch these two videos. One featured the WebQuest master himself, Dr. Bernie Dodge:

Also, watch this video where a group of gifted students in 1st and 2nd grade talk about WebQuests

This second video is particularly interesting as it goes on to prove that WebQuests as a learning tool don’t really have a ceiling. All ages and language competence levels have the potential to create top-notch WebQuests.

As you watch this, in class you are going to come up with a brief working definition of WebQuests.

  1. Well, After reading the two articles and watching the two videos it seems they generally agree in that the Webquests allow learning using modern methods, technology and a lot of sources from the internet. The whole students taking roles in the work sounds compromising for each student and engagew them in the work, causing them to research harder.

What Dodge says about simulating an downscales version of something older people do seem like an interesting approach, specially when he proposes to do a wall but not with bricks.
I believe these webquest could improve us as teachers too, as we keep improving the sites we use to get the bibliography, we also adquire more resources for future activities.
Day's article and the videos seem to agree in which are the parts of the Webquest work, though they differ in some aspects (for example, the 2nd video does not talk about a teacher page but talks about a final, and long, project).
The activity with the webquest sounds promising, with a promising topic one can come with interesting products for the activity.

  3. Relating whit the topic, Web Quest Is a tool for implementing many activities that may be include in classroom to do more practical learning .The principal aspect of a web quest is that learners can understand the information and there transform that in authentic learning whit the support of internet data, tasks, interaction whit pairs and other activities provided for web.
According whit the last appointment, personally, I believe that a WQ is very useful because we are doing use of the abilities from our students about technological devices, and their capacity to browse in the web, while find information that we like teachers need they get, and this information is presented in a format known for them. Also, WQ promote a critical thinking due to constantly students are interacting whit other people in real or short time, for example in educatives blogs, forums or data bases .

  4. Dealing WQs its really interesting and enrichment because, we,as techers, don't have to make students work on tasks they don't really like to or care about. once we have found out our students' interests, we just introduce,to them, compelling activities which they decide if take'em or not, as accepting a mission where they have to follow some well-oriented steps or rules.
in doing these kind of rules, our students improve in innovation; problem solving; global awareness; student engagement; creativity; higher level thinking; 21st. century learning; hands on learning; self-direction; real world application and, maybe the most important fact, collaborating and sharing, by spending the best of technology from our classrooms.
Dealing with this tool make us be part takers in the growing of these new gifted students of the last times.
